Energy

Energy is considered the first great theme for which it is essential for cooperation between European Union and Mediterranean countries.

As we all know, Europe is not self-sufficient in supplies of gas, oil and all the main energy sources, which an essential for the productive life of the continent. The European Union, as a signatory of the "European Charter for Energy", already promotes dialogue and energy cooperation with Russia and some Mediterranean countries. The European energy policy must be inextricably linked to EU foreign policy, because our foreign policy actions will be really effective when it speaks with one voice, this is also true with regard to energy policy.

In an era in which the dependence on Russia is an established and sometimes unsettling fact, the creation of a platform to develop the energy potential of the Mediterranean is increasingly becoming a priority. All this would greatly facilitate the achievement of the objectives pursued through the European Union energy policies in recent years: ensure equal access to the European level, both for firms that buy and also for those who sell electricity and guarantee sufficient energy resources in a framework of security of supply; protect the environment through the development of alternative energy sources; liberalize European energy markets as well as promote energy-saving policies.
